Hannibal Rising

Spotlight Project: Hannibal Rising

Spotlight Project The story of the early, murderous roots of the cannibalistic killer, Hannibal Lecter – from his hard-scrabble Lithuanian childhood, where he witnesses the repulsive lengths to which hungry soldiers will go to satiate themselves, through his sojourn in France, where as a med student he hones his appetite for the kill.

Before I start with this update, today would have been Gaspard’s 38th birthday. It’s still hard to believe he’s gone.. Bon anniversaire mon cher Gaspard. Tu nous manques tellement.

Going back, as I fill up the films & television sections of the gallery, I thought I’d add some sort of feature to the site, Spotlight Projects. I will be featuring a film or series of Gaspard’s to highlight at the top part of the main site, which will also include shortcut links to related images to the project, such as posters, production stills, and screen captures.

First up, I thought it would be the perfect one to start with, is Hannibal Rising. This marked as his first major English-language role, wherein he stepped into the character of a young Hannibal Lecter. Gaspard’s performance was generally praised by critics. How did you like the film? What are your favorite parts of the film? Feel free to share your thought down at the comments. I have some good stuff to add to the gallery related to this project, but for now, I have added some promotional photos that Gaspard did, along with some stills from the early scenes of the movie. Keep an eye out on our gallery and our socials (Twitter & Instagram) for more updates.

Ahead of its release in French cinemas, the first international trailer for Coma has been released. The film is a mix of live-action and animation with a star-studded cast. Gaspard wasn’t part of the live-action line-up and only voices the character of Scott. It arrives November 16th in French cinemas, and is still seeking U.S. distribution.

Locked indoors, a teenage girl passes time in a state of limbo. She follows the channel of a mysterious YouTuber called Patricia Coma. FaceTime chats with girlfriends with whom she shares a passion for serial killers are interspersed with stop-motion animations of talking Barbie dolls and a VR perspective inside a terrifying forest; the juxtaposition of these elements creates an unsettling and disorienting observation on growing up in our troubled times. Where is the line between reality and an imagined world?

Gaspard’s final film Plus que jamais (More Than Ever) had its premiere last night at the 75th Cannes Film Festival in the Un Certain Regard section. It was definitely one of the emotional moments of the festival as the team was greeted with long minutes of applause. The first batch of official photos from the movie has been released, you can check them out in our gallery. The film is scheduled to be released in theaters on November 9th.

Plus que jamais (More Than Ever) is one of the new additions to the line-up of films that are set to premiere at the 75th Cannes Film Festival. It is under the Un Certain Regard section of the festival, which presents films that have various styles and vision. Devastatingly, this marks as Gaspard’s final film role. You can view the first official image from the film in our gallery. Here’s also the official synopsis:

Hélène and Mathieu have been happy together for many years. The bond that unites them is deep. Faced with an existential decision, Hélène leaves alone for Norway to seek peace and experience the strength of their love.

I have updated the In Memoriam section of the gallery with some scans from magazines/newspapers that have dedicated pages to pay tribute to Gaspard after his untimely passing. Please feel free to donate scans if you have some that are not included here, these are all I could find so far. Additionally, if some of you are willing to help translate these articles from French to English for a future press archive here on the site, kindly contact me! I’ll give credit where it’s due, of course. You can reach out through the contact form, on the site Twitter, or on Instagram, thank you.

This week’s episode of Moon Knight was dedicated to Gaspard as he finally appeared as Anton Mogart, also known as Midnight Man in the comics. It wasn’t that long of a screen time, but it was definitely remarkable. Those who got to screen the show’s first four episodes confirmed that Gaspard isn’t in next week’s episode. It’s unclear whether he’ll appear again in the last two, but here’s hoping he will, even in just a post-credits scene. Anyway, I have updated the gallery with the episode stills and the behind-the-scenes photo of Gaspard that Marvel released. Also included in the update are 300+ screen captures in 4k quality!

Hello and welcome to Gaspard Forever, a tribute site dedicated to French actor Gaspard Ulliel. He was widely known for portraying the role of young Hannibal Lecter in Hannibal Rising, fashion mogul Yves Saint Laurent in the 2014 biopic Saint Laurent, and for being the face of the Chanel men’s fragrance Bleu de Chanel for several years. This site aims to honor and celebrate Gaspard.

It’s been over two months and I’m still sad about the loss of Gaspard. I decided to build a tribute site for him that fellow fans can visit and remember all the beauty that he has brought into this world. I’ve been working on the site for the past month and I really wanted to have it open while Moon Knight is airing. That way, I can have weekly updates here, hoping he’ll appear in the rest of the episodes. The gallery is still a work in progress and doesn’t have much content at this time. I have so much collected already and I will work on getting it as complete as I can over time. Looking forward to interacting with you guys, especially as I fill up the movies section and we get to talk about them and of course, applaud Gaspard’s performances.

Feel free to browse the site, I hope you enjoy it and visit often. Let us know what you think and if there’s any error you come across. You can also reach us on Twitter at @gaspard_forever and on Instagram at @gaspardforever.
